Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned Swedish lawmakers that Russia will destroy Europe’s independence. “If Ukraine does not protect itself, it will mean that all of Russia’s neighbors are now under threat,” he told lawmakers, joining the Swedish parliament on Thursday.

On the same day, the President of Ukraine said that the war against Ukraine means that Russia wants to make further progress in Europe. They want to end the independence of Europe. It has become a major challenge for Europe’s security and defense system.

In his speech, he called for tougher sanctions against Moscow.

Zelensky also warned Sweden about the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. In 2004, the Swedish government suspended military installations on the island. But after Moscow annexed Crimea, the Swedish government reopened its military base in 2016. “You are in danger now,” said the Ukrainian president.

Russian critics have already discussed in the broadcast how Moscow will occupy and control the island of Gotland. Russia believes that in order to make progress in the Baltic states, it needs to establish its own defenses and bases there.

For the first time, Zelensky thanked the Swedish government for agreeing to send military aid to a war-torn country to fight Russia.
