The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament that takes place every four years. It will be held in Qatar from 10 to 26 November 2022. The country was selected as the host on 29 June 2010, after beating bids from India, Australia and South America. The final choice was announced on 3 June of the same year at the Annual General Meeting of the International Football Association Committee in Zurich, Switzerland. The competition is set to take place across 16 venues spread across eight cities: Al Bayt Stadium in Doha; Khalifa Stadium in East Hamoud; Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Ad Dawhah; Lekhwiya Sports Club Stadium in Al Rayyan; Madinat ash Shamal Stadium in Dukhan; New Arabella Sports Complex in Qurac; Ras Abu Abaida Stadium in Doha; Sustainable City Sports City Stadium in Doha; The Pearl Sport City for Shared Use (Whilst Not Hosting Matches) Capacity – 73,000 stadia which is primarily used for football matches and not for athletics or tennis events: Qatar’s first stadium with natural lighting and air conditioning – Aspire Zone Qatar-Al Bayt -Al Wakrah SuperSport Centre -World Cup Final Venue -Qatar SC Stadim -Qatar Foundation Headquarters

Dates of Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup

The Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup will be hosted between 10 November 2022 and 28 November 2022. This corresponds with the dates of the winter Islamic calendar. The Gregorian calendar however, is 11 days behind the Islamic calendar so, in the Gregorian calendar, the dates would be between 2 and 23 November 2022. The 2022 FIFA World Cup will commence on 10 November 2022 and finish on 28 November 2022. The stadiums used will be Al Bayt Stadium, Khalifa Stadium, Khalifa Sports City Stadium, Lekhwiya Sports Club Stadium, Madinat ash Shamal Stadium, New Arabella Sports Complex, Ras Abu Abaida Stadium, Sustainable City Sports City Stadium, The Pearl Sport City for Shared Use (Whilst Not Hosting Matches), Aspire Zone Qatar-Al Bayt Stadium, World Cup Final Venue, Qatar SC Stadim, Qatar Foundation Headquarters.

Stadiums to be used in Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup

There will be 16 stadiums used during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Al Bayt Stadium, Khalifa Stadium, Khalifa Sports City Stadium, Lekhwiya Sports Club Stadium, Madinat ash Shamal Stadium, New Arabella Sports Complex, Ras Abu Abaida Stadium, Sustainable City Sports City Stadium, The Pearl Sport City for Shared Use (Whilst Not Hosting Matches), Aspire Zone Qatar-Al Bayt Stadium, World Cup Final Venue, Qatar SC Stadim, Qatar Foundation Headquarters.

Groups & fixtures of Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup

The 16 teams will be divided into 4 groups of 4 teams each. The fixtures will be played in a round-robin format. Each team will play the other teams in their group once. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the Round of 16. The Round of 16 will be played in a single-elimination format. The quarterfinals will be played in a home-and-away round. The semifinals will also be played in a home-and-away round. The final will be played at the World Cup Final Venue. The draw for the 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place on 9 October 2015 in the city of Zürich, Switzerland. The draw will be conducted by Paulo Vistoli, the head of the organizing committee for the FIFA World Cup and Gianni Infantino, the president of UEFA.
