PLA exercises around Taiwan began after Pelosi’s visit

Chinese military exercises in six locations around Taiwan began on Thursday, August 4, after the island visited by Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi. The PLA’s Eastern Theater Command said the maneuvers were designed to test the Chinese army’s ability to carry out strikes against ground targets and attacks from the sea. The exercise is expected to end on 7 August.

AP reported on August 5 that after Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan The Chinese government froze key channels of communication with Washington, through which, among other things, military issues were discussed. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called the move irresponsible. He also added that the latest activity of the PLA around Taiwan suggests that Beijing could reconsider its approach to the Taiwan issue in favor of a forceful solution.
