The cause of gas combustion is not clear, combustion can occur for several reasons. According to experts, it is used even when gas cannot be delivered to the customer.
The website reported that flames at the compressor station, which is part of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, have appeared almost constantly since June 17, according to NASA satellite images. Shortly before this date, the Russian state gas company Gazprom announced a significant reduction in supplies through this gas pipeline, which it explained was the missing turbine.
Nord Stream 1 transports gas from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea and is the main route for Russian gas supplies to the European Union. The situation surrounding Russian gas supplies became more complicated when Russia launched an attack on Ukraine in February and the European Union enacted a series of anti-Russian sanctions in retaliation.
Gazprom cites technical problems as the reason for limiting supplies. But the European Union says the technical problems are just a pretext and that Moscow is using the gas as a weapon to advance its interests.
