Logsville, Florida. (May 12, 2022) – Renee Abarnath of Kentucky has been named the 2022 SEC Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Abernathy, a graduate of Springfield, Illinois, will graduate this month from the University of Kentucky with a GPA of 4.00 in human health sciences. He is in the final stages of applying to the United States Naval Academy. Last season, Abernathy was named to the CoSIDA All-Academic team. It earned its place in the SEC Year 1 Academic Honors Roll in its first season in 2019, as well as in the Spring SEC All-Academic Honors Roll in 2020 and 2021.
Abernathi is second on the team with 13 home runs this season, and his second season saw double-digit home runs. He was named SEC Player of the Week and currently hits 0.331 hits per game with 47 strokes and 35 points. Abernathi tops the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) average of six players this season in average batting, floor running, sprinting and doubles batting. He hit a homer in the game against Auburn and clinched a streak in Game Three and scored his seven home runs on the field.
